Flexing rights

Have you seen anyone post on social media about donating to a charity? Or a picture of someone helping a stranger out? You might have even seen those viral tik toks of a beautiful girl cooking for and feeding people on the streets. Well, in that case, you may also have seen those comments stating that such acts are only done to gain popularity.

Well, to those comments, I say, SO WHAT?

Fueled by quotes like "Charity should be done in silence", there are many online haters of public display of generosity. While I give mad props people who prefer to remain anonymous for their acts of kindness, there should also be more appreciation for anyone who helps out someone else- irrespective of whether they wanted to be known for it or not.

While many of us speculate the intentions of someone's act of kindness, what the real point is that they have actually ended up helping someone out. While we sit behind our keyboards scrutinising their publicity, they have in fact helped someone out. In these types of cases, intention doesn't really mean much for me. Intentions don't do shit. You could wish for poverty to be eradicated but wishes don't really do anything. Whereas, someone else might actually be putting their words to action. Even though their ulterior motive might have been something else, they are helping someone out. That is what really matters.

I've had this debate with many a people- intentions vs. results? Of course, my stand may change according the the situation but in most cases, I would support results. Intending to do something is just thinking or just planning and only actions- irrespective of what the intention is- can bring results. It's not always one or the other- most results start with some sort of intention but many a times, the intentions and the results do not match. What remains in the real world is the result- not the intention.
